Novice
Riders at the Novice level continue to practice exercises on the flat and over cavaletti to strengthen their base of support and help stabilize their hand and arm positions.
As they become adept at maintaining a two-point contact, effectively monitoring their horse's pace, and practicing eye control to help ride a track, these students also begin to work over single fences, gymnastics, and then simple courses of fences as they gain confidence and ability.
While receiving a great deal of individualized instruction on well-trained school horses, the Novice riders quickly develop new techniques which enable them to enjoy practicing flat work or hacking on their non-lesson days, riding out on the trails, and exploring some competitive opportunities.
